 -Intro cutscene

Bowser (/ˈbaʊzə/), known in Japan as Kuppa (「クッパ」) and sometimes referred as King Koopa and King Bowser is the main antagonist of the Super Mario franchise who made his first appearance in the original Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)/Family Computer (Famicom) and has become very known in the video game industry by making more appearances in games, films, and other media. He is the king of the Koopa Kingdom, and leads a large army of his minions, and has been the arch-nemesis of Mario throughout the series. He also attempted and kidnapped Princess Peach with his ultimate goal being taking over the Mushroom Kingdom and defeating Mario.

In Mario Forever, he is the boss of every world's final level (except for World 5), and requires to be defeated in order to advance to the next world.

Etymology

The name Bowser comes from the name Sylvanus Bowser, an American inventor who is widely known for inventing the automobile fuel pump. The word is also used for fuel metering (delivery pump) at a filling station, a road vehicle for the transport of liquid fuel and a mobile water tank deployed to distribute fresh water in emergency situations where the normal system of piped distribution has broken down or is insufficient (Britain). It's sometimes used in the vocative of an Irish slang for buffoon and imbecile.

Battles

During every castle (except for World 5), Bowser will fight the player once they reach the final part. Unlike Super Mario Bros., which would require the player to touch the axe in order to cut the support of the bridge, Bowser has a health bar, ranging from 1 to 20, and in order to defeat him, the player has to jump on his head, or use one of the power-ups (Fire Flower or a Beetroot) to decrease his health. Once Bowser's health bar is empty, he will fall to the lava below.

Bowser is fought in the last level of each world, with his health bar being either increased or decreased as the player progresses:

Bowser is also fought in extra worlds, including Koopa The Devastator:

Attacks

Bowser, during his battles will try to attack Mario with different attacks, ranging from jumping and running (depending on the speed and height) to throwing hammers and releasing fireballs:

  • Running: Bowser's most common move. He will run throughout the bridge, either slowly or speedily (depending on the difficulty). If Mario gets touched while Bowser is running, he'll shrink to Small Mario or get killed.
  • Jumping: Another common move. He will randomly jump during the battle, either highly or slightly (depending on the difficulty). If Mario gets touched when Bowser jumped, he'll shrink to Small Mario or get killed. Jumping can also be mixed with flames and hammers.
  • Firing: A common attack with different varieties. Bowser will breathe from his mouth , which can travel slow or rapidly fast (depending on the difficulty). Bowser can also breathe three fires after five times of firing a single fire, which be identified by his flashing eyes. In Koopa the Devastator, he will breathe two fires every second. And exclusively to Mario Forever: Advance Edition is the Homing attack, where Bowser's fires tries to follow Mario's movements. If Mario gets touched by Bowser's fires, he'll shrink to Small Mario or get killed. Bowser's fires can be mixed with jumping.
  • Hammer Attack: Only available in World 8-4, alongside the Fire Devastation attack. Bowser will stop and throw ten hammers four times (40 hammers combined), before going back to running after he finishes it. If a hammer touched Mario, he'll shrink to Small Mario or get killed. Bowser sometimes jumps while throwing hammers.
  • Fire Devastation: This and the Hammer Attack are exclusive to World 8-4, the game's final level. Sometimes, Bowser will stop and fires fireballs from his mouth, this can be indicated by his sudden stop, and the only way to avoid it is to go to behind Bowser, and once he finishes his attack, he will return to running. If the fireballs touched Mario, he'll shrink to Small Mario or get killed.

Sometimes, Bowser will be fought with his minions' assistance. A good example is in World 2-5 and Mario Forever Flash's World 3-4, where a Podoboo is swimming in the lava below the bridge, a Bill Blaster within Bowser's hands in Hardcore World 1-4 & The Lost Map-6, and the Spinies in Mario Forever Flash's World 2-4 and World 4-5.
