First appearance: | World 2-1 |
Green Lui (also known as Green Jumping Lui) is a power-up that made its first appearance in the original Mario Forever, including Mario Forever Remake. It's a rare, yet strong power-up that allows Mario to jump higher to reach high places that may contain items or secrets.
In Mario Forever, it first appears in World 2-1, although hidden in an Invisible Block. While in World 6-3, it's visible and can be found on a '?' Block. It also gives 1000 points upon collecting it.
Appearance
The Green Lui appears to be a green bouncing ball-like thing with two tiny eyes, which unsurprisingly uses Super Mario: All Stars' small tree decoration.
Etymology
Green Lui has two words; Green, which originates from the Middle and Old English word grene, and Lui being a Chinese surname that is mostly common around Asian/Pacific Islanders.
Effect
Green Lui, unlike other power-ups is not commonly found in a lot of levels, as it only appears in World 2-1 (although inside an Invisible Block), World 6-3, and other extra levels. This power-up allows Mario to jump higher and longer to get through high places, skipping a wave of enemies, or taking a shortcut. Green Lui requires Mario to have a Super Mushroom with him in order to spawn it.
It can also be used to access Koopa the Devastator's pipe, but requires the player to not die in World 2-1, since it disappears once Mario loses a life in it.
Trivia
- The Green Lui is a reference to Luigi, Mario's brother, who jumps higher, but takes a bit longer to stop. The name itself for the power-up, the Green Lui, comes from Luigi's name.
