Michał is responsible for developing Polish freeware games in the early 2000s, including Mario Forever. However, his Amiga games, alongside Maurycy's were lost and now develops games for Windows computers.

Buziol Games was Michał's little indie team of Polish game development that was created in 2002. The group was comprised of only two people; Michał Gdaniec (aka Michael "Buziol" Gdanietz), who has developed games entirely on his own, and Maurycy "Skell" Zarzycki, who only helped in beta testing. Buziol Games started developing Mario Forever in mid-late 2003[1] with Multimedia Fusion 1.2[2].

Buziol Games has been in activity since 2002 to 2006, until Mario Forever v4.1 was released. Since 2008, Michał has rebranded Buziol Games as Softendo and picked the project back up in 2009, continuing to develop it.

History

Michał's early days and his first games on the Amiga 1200 (1982-2000)

Michał Gdaniec was born on February 4th, 1982[3] in Poland. He started making his own games in Amiga 1200, by using the Backbone Game Dev Tool. His first names prior to Buziol Games were BARNEY SOFTWARE, MR-X SOFTWARE, and finally Retrograde Software.

His Amiga 1200 games were Alien Language, Space Strategy. The General Raisins, Fancy Boy Adventures. Madloc Adventures, Shadow Warriors, The NIX out of friends. All of them released in 1995, along with The ORDER and Mario Forever in 1996. However, all of his Amiga 1200 games are lost, and after switching to Windows computers, Michał decided to start his own freeware games development.

First Game and the beginning of Buziol Games (2001-2002)

Michał would release his first game in 2001 for a computer class project when he was 19, that being Ninja Jonder Deluxe. It was made with Clickteam's Klik & Play and it would be his first platformer game. In the same year, Michał would release his second game Madlocnoid, a break-out game. Both of these were a part of his Seria Mini Gier (Minigames Series). After the release of his two games, Michał would release Madloc Future and then Stargrade. These four games not only made Michał as a game developer, but would kickstart Buziol Games and expand his productions on games.

Michał Gdaniec made his own website called Buziol Games in 2002, where it would host his games for people to play them. Around the same year, he would switch to The Games Factory and try to understand the engine's power. Therefore, he made Test to test TGF and know if he should use it or not. Unsurprisingly, he did, as he would release Myster Muszel, Bijak War, and finally Urbagility.

During 2002, Michał cancelled and couldn't finish some of his games, which were Force Impact, Demons Revel, and ORDER II due to Michał not understanding how 3D works and how complex the latter two were.

The Golden Age of Buziol Games (2003-2005)

2003 would be the golden year for Michał and Buziol Games entirely, with the release of his first Multimedia Fusion and logical game Bod Blob. It was his most popular game and the first one to have a kid-friendly feeling compared to his early action games. Four months passed and Myster Muszel 2 was released in summer of 2003, and port all of his 2001-2002 games to Multimedia Fusion due to it being powerful and having more features than K&P and TGF.

August arrives, and Michał had the idea to create his first Super Mario game, that being Super Mario Bross Berek, which was a tag game and not a platformer like most Super Mario games, tho a Mario platformer could happen at any time, but Michał was helping his brother, Maurycy Zarzycki on creating his own games aside from Przygody Wesołego Ludzika. Those games were the Multimedia Fusion of Kulkis and Diamentowa Przygoda, which was Skell's only game made in RPGMaker rather than MMF. Around November, Mario Forever was announced, and would start development with his brother's assistance in beta testing. Before 2003 ended, Michał released Super Mario Bross Minix, an endless Super Mario game about highscores, and Super Mario Shooten, a small game about Mario's characters fighting with weapons. Around 2003, the mysterious project Axaritanianum was cancelled, and Defender Saga, Oscar Forever, Stargrade Superforce and JEAN! were unfinished. It's likely JEAN! was converted to Bod Blob due to the similarities of the main character.

Michał would start a golden 2004 by releasing his most popular game, Mario Forever. The game was his first major Super Mario platformer, and would be his most downloaded and popular one, crushing Bod Blob's spot of being his most popular game. However, the first release of the game was criticized for being too difficult and having softlocks in some levels. 28 days later, Michał would release MF's first update to Mario Forever, eventually fixing some bugs and nerfing the game. When Michał saw the success of his current game, he decided to make a level editor for it, that being Mario Worker, which was released in mid 2004.

In June 2004, Michał tried using GameMaker to see if its powerful than Multimedia Fusion. He started making a few games in it like Budixy, Shooterex, Stargrade 2 and Bod Blob 2. However, he later returned to Multimedia Fusion and abandoned them due to them being different than MMF.

In the same year, GRY.o2.PL, a famous Polish forum website, requested Michał if he could make a custom world in Mario Forever dedicated to them, which would feature humans in it. Michał agreed, and released version 2.16 in June 25th, 2004, which contained World WWW.GRY.o2.PL (which has been renamed as Human Laboratory World) and an improved English translation. It was also the year where Michał finally got a secondary language for his website, which is English. Michał re-released English versions of his old Polish games, while keeping the Polish, original ones for his fans from Poland.

In November 2004, Michał would discontinue Mario Worker by releasing its final version, v1.0 because he didn't intend to ''continue "fixing" the project any more, nor spend more seconds on it!''

Nothing major happened in 2005, aside from Super Mario: The Tag Play's release, which was an English, remade version of Super Mario Bross Berek, and his release of Obliterator, which won first place in Game Maker Clan Week Contest. Mario Forever also got a small update before 2006 arrived.

The Silver Age (2006-2007)

2006 would be Michał's popular era for foreign people, likely due to his games getting recognized more. He returned and made a new website design and a new game, Urbagility 2. Some of his games got updated like Myster Muszel and Ninja Jonder Deluxe. Mario Forever also got a major update, featuring the Hardcore Worlds, an extra level and Mario Forever Minix, and the sequel of Bod Blob was revealed to the public and was being developed in GameMaker after being abandoned. He also released another Mario Forever update, which included an extra world, extra levels, and the return of Mario Worker, in a different style.

Around 2006, Michał made Super Mario Bross Minix, now named as Mario Minix, an online game, along with Mario Forever The Lost Map and some of his other games. Mario Forever got its 'last' update in November 16th, 2006, and nothing new was heard from Michał for six months.

The Mysterious Disappearance of Buziol Games (2007-2008)

In summer of 2007, the server that hosted Buziol Games was shut down, which confused a lot of its members. However, it was found out that its News corner was still working in 2008, which could meant that Michał could've explained the reason behind the website's disappearance. In 2008, Michał announced that Buziol Games would be rebranded as Softendo.

Criticism

Mario Forever and Bod Blob, alongside Myster Muszel 1 & 2 and Urbagility 2 were very praised for their Amiga musics and game play. Especially Mario Forever, with its Amiga musics made by certain musicians and its levels and worlds being unique. The downside however was its toolbar that brought unwanted plugins to browsers and slowed them. His older games and the old versions of his recent games had major bugs and issues, which were fixed in later versions.
