Coins are collectibles that made their first appearance in Mario Bros. and returned in Super Mario Bros. and its upcoming games. They have been hugely recognized in the Super Mario series mainly from their mechanics and the sound they make when collected, eventually making more appearances in other familiar spin-offs.

Coins have ways of appearing; either be hidden in "?" blocks, or simply be shown normally on-screen. Coins are especially common in bonus rooms, some of which are hidden sometimes. If one was collected via a ''?'' Block or a Brick Block, they will rotate before sparkling and disappearing.

In Mario Forever, they first appear in World 1-1, and if the player happens to collect 100 Coins, they will receive an extra life. They also reward 200 points for each coin collected.

Appearance

A Coin resembles a golden, circular coin with a sans-serif ''one'' numeral debossed in the center of their face. They also tend to shine, and has different colors of yellow in their back.

How to obtain them

Usually, Coins have variety of ways to obtain them through a level:

Coins that floats in the air.
Coins that are inside a Brick Block.
  1. Collecting them while they are floating in the air.
  2. Being hidden in ? Blocks, and sometimes invisible ones.
  3. Being inside a Brick Block.
  4. Being hidden in bonus rooms, including underground ones.

After collecting 100 of them, the player will receive a 1-UP automatically, and the Coin counter will restart to zero.
