Date of foundation: 2001
Date of closure: 2007
Owner(s): Michał Gdaniec

Buziol Games was Michał's little indie team of Polish game development that was created in 2001. The group was comprised of only two people: Michał Gdaniec (aka Michael "Buziol" Gdanietz), who has developed the game entirely on his own, and Maurycy "Skell" Zarzycki, who only helped in beta testing. Buziol Games started developing Mario Forever in mid-late 2003[1] with Multimedia Fusion 1.2[2].

Buziol Games has been in activity since 2001 to 2006, until Mario Forever v4.1 was released. Since 2008, Michał has rebranded Buziol Games as Softendo and picked the project back up in 2009, continuing to develop it.

History

Michał's early days and his first games on the Amiga 1200 (1982-2000)

Michał Gdaniec was born on February 4th, 1982[3] in Poland. He started making his own games in Amiga 1200, by using the Backbone Game Dev Tool. His first names prior to Buziol Games were BARNEY SOFTWARE, MR-X SOFTWARE, and finally Retrograde Software.

His Amiga 1200 games were Alien Language, Space Strategy. The General Raisins, Fancy Boy Adventures. Madloc Adventures, Shadow Warriors, The NIX out of friends. All of them released in 1995, along with The ORDER and Mario Forever in 1996. However, all of his Amiga 1200 games are lost, and after switching to Windows computers, Michał decided to start his own freeware games development.

First Game on Multimedia Fusion and the Buziol Games site (2001-2002)

Michał Gdaniec made his own website called Buziol Games in 2001, where it would host his games for people to play them. Ninja Testicles Deluxe was his first game that he made in Multimedia Fusion, along with other earlier games, most of them being unfinished like Demons Revel and Force Impact. The only completed games he released were Madlocnoid in 2001, and Punch War, along with Stargrade and Myster Muszel, and Urbagility, all of which were released in 2002.

The Golden Age of Buziol Games (2003-2005)

Many games like Myster Muszel 2 were made in 2003. The most popular one, however was Bod Blob, which was a hit with its simple yet logic gameplay. Michał started getting interested to the Super Mario series, in which he made three Mario games, that being Super Mario Bross Berek, Super Mario Bross Minix, and Super Mario Shooten.

In September of the same year, he had the idea of making a true Mario game, using Multimedia Fusion 1.2, and with the help of his younger brother, Maurycy Zarzycki (Skell Zoft) in beta testing, who also made two small games with him called Kulkis and Diamentowa Przygoda. Mario Forever was released publicly in 2004, and was a huge success with its levels and music. After seeing its success, Michał decided to update the game often with fixing bugs and adding new stuff. In mid 2004, the first version of Mario Worker was released, which would get updated until November 2004, where it would be discontinued.

In the same year, GRY.o2.PL, a famous Polish forum website, requested Michał if he could make a custom world dedicated to it, which would feature humans in it. Michał agreed, and released version 2.16 in June 25th, 2004, which contained World WWW.GRY.o2.PL (which has been renamed as Human Laboratory World). It was also the year where Michał finally got a secondary language for his website, which is English. Michał re-released English versions of his old Polish games, while keeping the Polish, original ones for his fans from Poland.

Nothing happened in 2005, although Michał was revamping his website to be ready for the next year and updating Mario Forever before 2006.

The Silver Age (2006-2007)

Michał came back this time, with a new website design and a new game, Urbagility 2. Some of his games got updated like Myster Muszel or were totally revamped like Super Mario: The Tag Play. Mario Forever also got an update, featuring the Hardcore Worlds, an extra level, and Mario Forever Minix, and the sequel of Bod Blob was revealed to the public and was being developed. He also released another Mario Forever update, which included an extra world, extra levels, and the return of Mario Worker, in a different style. He also made Obliterator for a Game Maker Clan Week Contest, in which it won first place and won the contest.

Around 2006, Michał made Super Mario Bross Minix, now named as Mario Minix, an online game, along with Mario Forever The Lost Map and some of his other games. Mario Forever got its 'last' update in November 16th, 2006, and nothing new was heard from Michał for six months.

The Mysterious Disappearance of Buziol Games (2007-2008)

In summer of 2007, the website's servers were shut down, which confused a lot of its members. However, it was found out that its News corner was still working in 2008, which could meant that Michał could explain the reason behind the website's disappearance. In an unknown time, Michał announced that Buziol Games would be rebranded as Softendo.

Criticism

Most of his old games like Stargrade and Urbagility were average, although Mario Forever and Bod Blob, along with Myster Muszel 1 & 2 and Urbagility 2 were very praised for their Amiga musics and game play. Especially Mario Forever, with its Amiga musics made by certain musicians and its levels and worlds being unique. The downside however was its toolbar that brings unwanted plugins to browsers, mainly Mario Forever and Urbagility 2. Along with his older games and the old versions of his recent games having bugs, which were fixed in later versions.
