Mario Worker Android is a remake/port of Mario Worker for Android developed by Alexandro Games. The game was made with Clickteam Fusion and with a combination of Rainbow Engine Mod and Mario Worker 1.0. According to Alexandro, it was his most challenging and rewarding project, achieving another one of his dreams by allowing fans to create their own levels in mobile devices.
Development
In mid-2017, Alexandro Games began developing the Mario Worker Android level editor, based on the original Mario Worker created by Buziol Games with Multimedia Fusion 1.5. During its development, various issues arose, leading Alexandro to learn much more about the development program to resolve these issues and improve his programming skills.
In August, Alexandro published a video on YouTube showcasing a demonstration of the project. On March 9, 2018, he released version alpha 0.12 for people to try out and provide feedback. This version allowed the saving of a single level only, to play a level and featured one scenario and music theme.
For months, Alexandro worked on version 1.0, which posed a challenge in creating many elements like the interface and editor code. He initially planned to release this version in 2018, but the release was significantly delayed due to the addition of new features, interface changes, graphics, and code updates. In April of the same year, alpha 0.90 was released for players, allowing the saving of 20 levels, and added the ability to choose more music themes and scenarios.
Over these years, Alexandro slowly developed the project due to various personal circumstances.
In 2020, a fan testing Alexandro's demos uploaded version alpha 0.98 online for more people, an action that Alexandro did not appreciate because this version was unfinished and lacked the final code. Unfortunately, this version was labeled as 1.0, leading many to believe it was official.
Alexandro had to create another version to prevent the fake 1.0 version from being downloaded. Thus, on March 15 of that year, he released version 0.98, accompanied by many promotional videos. This version allowed saving and loading files in both internal and external storage of the phone, with files in the .mwls format. It also included many added features.
Version 1.0 and next versions
Over the following months, Alexandro stayed home due to the pandemic, which allowed him to make significant progress and finally release version 1.0 on October 31, 2020. This version included a world creation feature without maps, and added many blocks, enemies, markers, and different types of Koopa Troopas.
In the following days and months, he updated the game to fix issues and bugs. In 2021, version 1.3.x was released, addressing errors.
In 2022, Alexandro stopped working on version 2.0 due to high stress and because his copy of Clickteam 2.5 Developer was outdated and did not support continuing the project.
In 2023, Alexandro purchased the updated program, providing him with more tools to continue the project. By mid-year, he was working at a power plant, leaving him with little time. That same year, he mentioned in a video that he would release version 2.0 in 2024, but he did not specify when to avoid over-committing, as development issues could cause delays.
After three years, on January 24, 2024, he released version 1.5 to fix errors.
Currently, Alexandro occasionally works on version 2.0, which will allow creating maps and levels taller than 480 pixels. The game's interface is different from previous versions, resembling a Minecraft styled interface. The game changed its name to Super Mario Worker.
